Black Excellence Day
This lesson plan was created to help teach students about Black Excellence Day, a new day that was started in the lower mainland on January 15th. Black Excellence Day was created to bring awareness about the many successes and great achievements by black people of color. I have created this lesson for a grade 4 class which could be used for higher or lower grades as the resources are great to access for many levels.
Black-Excellence-DayMy Name
During EDPR 3100 I put this lesson to practice and it was very enjoyed by the students. In this lesson the students listened to a picture book about a student who did not like her name until she understood the story behind her name. The students in the class completed a worksheet that had questions about their own names which was very intrinsically motivating for them. Learning about ourselves helps better understand our identity and also can help students understand that they are unique and each have their own story.
